Gods of Ise Province (7) Tsukiyomi Shrine

After visiting Ise Jingu Shrine, we returned to the bustling city of Ujiyamada and drove again. The next stop is Tsukiyomi Shrine, a separate shrine of the Imperial Grand Shrine. I had heard that Tsukiyomi Shrine, located not far from Iseshi Station, is a place surrounded by silence away from the hustle and bustle. Fascinated by these words, I drove with the desire to soothe my tired heart and quiet my soul in the hustle and bustle of the city.
In search of healing for the soul, visit the Tsukiyomi Son, which stands in silence
Nakamura Town, Ise City. Following the navigation instructions, I walked through a narrow path and found myself in a space surrounded by dense trees. That was the Tsukiyomi Palace. When you pass through the torii gate and step inside, the atmosphere changes completely. A cool silence envelops the surroundings, as if you have wandered into another world. A quiet and calm space where only the rustle of trees and the chirping of birds can be heard. I felt my heart, which had been tense in the hustle and bustle of the city, gradually unleashed.
Tsukiyomi Shrine - A sacred place that heals the soul standing in silence
As the name suggests, Tsukiyomi Shrine is a shrine dedicated to Tsukiyomi Mikoto, the god of the moon. He is the younger brother of Amaterasu, and is also enshrined in the Tsukiyomi Shrine in the Outer Palace. It has been worshipped by people since ancient times as a god who controls the phases of the moon and teaches the calendar.
The name, which means "reading the moon," has a deep meaning. The moon has been closely related to people's lives since ancient times. The phases of the moon determine the tides and determine the cycle of agriculture. Observing the moon, creating a calendar, and knowing the change of seasons were indispensable elements in enriching people's lives and fostering culture. Tsukiyomison has been revered as the god who controls the power of the moon and brings wisdom and fertility to people.
Tsukiyomi Shrine is not just a place to enshrine Tsukiyomizon. It is a special space filled with the mysterious power and tranquility of the moon. It is said that visitors are able to face their innermost emotions and heal their souls in the silence.
A sacred space woven by four separate palaces
In addition to Tsukiyomi Shrine, there are four other shrines sitting side by side: Tsukiyomi Arami Tamanomiya, Izanagi Miya, and Izanami Miya. Each temple enshrines different gods and plays different roles.
Tsukiyomi Palace: The main shrine enshrines Tsukiyomi no Mikoto. As the god of the phases of the moon and the teaching of the calendar, he brings wisdom and fertility to people.

Tsukiyomi Arami Tamamiya
Enshrine the soul of Tsukiyomi no Arami. The wild soul refers to the wild side of God, the remarkable work. By enshrining the powerful and active side of Tsukiyomison, it gives people vitality and courage.

Izanagi Miya
Enshrine Izanagi no Mikoto. Izanagison is a god who, along with Izanagison, is said to have created the Japan archipelago. As the God of Creation, he presides over new beginnings and possibilities.

Izanami Miya
Enshrine Izanami no Mikoto. Izanagi is a deity who, together with Izanagison, is said to have created the Japan archipelago. As the mother of life, she is worshipped as the god of easy childbirth and child-rearing.

The juxtaposition of these four separate shrines makes the Tsukiyomi Shrine a sacred space that enshrines various aspects of the Tsukiyomi Shrine and important deities in Japan mythology. It is said that by visiting each temple, one receives the blessings of different gods and heals both body and mind.
In silence, face to face with the gods
Worship at Tsukiyomi Shrine is generally carried out in the order from right to left: Tsukiyomi Ara Soul Shrine, Tsukiyomi Shrine, Isana Gigu Shrine, and Isana Miya Shrine. First of all, at the Tsukiyomi Ara Soul Palace, you will receive energy from the powerful side of the Tsukiyomi Son. Next, pray for the wisdom and fertility of the moon at the Tsukiyomi Shrine. And at Isana Gigu and Isanaya Shrine, he is given the power of creation and life.
Walk slowly along the path and quietly put your hands together in front of each shrine. If you close your eyes and quiet your mind, you may be able to feel the presence of the gods. In the silence where only the rustle of the trees, the chirping of birds, and the sound of one's own breathing, one hears and converses with the gods.
Tsukiyomi Shrine is known as one of the quietest shrines in the area around Ise Jingu. Unlike bustling tourist spots, there is a special space where you can feel the slow flow of time. As you walk along the path, you feel as if time has stopped.
For those who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, Tsukiyomi Palace is truly a refuge for the soul. In silence, free your mind and face yourself. Then, with the blessings of the gods, they are healed both physically and mentally.
A mysterious power that heals the fatigue of the soul
People who visit Tsukiyomi Palace often say that it heals their souls. What is the reason for this?
For one thing, it is the quiet space of Tsukiyomi Palace. In today's noisy and information-overloaded society, many people seek tranquility. In its stillness, Tsukiyomi gives us the opportunity to face and release our innermost emotions.
It may also be influenced by the power of the moon that Tsukiyomi possesses. Since ancient times, the moon has been thought to influence people's emotions and psyche. The phases of the moon also bring about changes in people's minds, triggering waves of emotions. It is said that the moon controls the power of the moon and has the power to heal and stabilize people's minds.
In addition, the presence of the gods enshrined in the Tsukiyomi Shrine is also a factor that heals people's hearts. Tsukiyomizon, Izanagizon, and Izanagison are all deities that are closely related to people's lives. By feeling their presence and praying, people can feel safe and regain peace of mind.
Tsukiyomi Palace is more than just a tourist destination. It is a sacred space where the gods dwell, a place that has the power to heal people's souls. In its silence, visitors can face themselves, receive the blessings of the gods, and take a new step.
At the end of the journey
After finishing my visit to the Tsukiyomi Shrine, I got back in the car. My heart was calm and full. I felt that my heart, which had been tired from the hustle and bustle of the city, was completely healed.
On this trip to Ise, we visited many shrines, including Ise Jingu. At each shrine, they met different gods and received different benefits. The gods of Ise are closely related to people's lives and continue to heal and support people's hearts.
For me, the trip to Ise was not just a sightseeing trip, but a journey of soul search. By meeting the gods of Ise and facing my own inner world, I made new discoveries and grew.
I want to come back to see the gods of Ise again someday. And at that time, I want to have an even deeper dialogue with the gods than this time. With that in mind, I left the land of Ise.
